Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecutor, announced today that Hector Flores Arias, age 36, of Wilder, was sentenced by the Honorable Davis F. VanderVelde for the felony crime of Lewd Conduct with a Minor Under Sixteen.
Judge VanderVelde sentenced Arias to 5 years fixed, followed by 12 ½ indeterminate, for a total unified sentence of 17 ½ years in prison. Judge VanderVelde also ordered Arias to register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample to the Idaho database, and have no contact with the victim or any minor females for the duration of the sentence.
Arias was arrested in October 2018 after an investigation by the Wilder Police Department revealed he was having an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage girl. According to police, Arias took the 14-year-old victim out of school without consent on October 1 and they began investigating it as a potential runaway. During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the victim was hanging out with Arias and found text message conversations on a school-issued iPad between the victim and Arias that were sexual and graphic in nature. The victim later admitted to investigators Arias had sex with her on numerous occasions over a two month period. She also admitted to doing methamphetamine and having sex with him on the day he took her out of school. Court records also show that Arias was on felony parole at the time of his arrest.
“The defendant in this case provided drugs to this young victim and groomed her so he could use her for his own sexual gratification,” said Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “There is no doubt he belongs in prison.”
